GM Settles Claims It Sold Drivers' Data

General Motors has agreed to pay 220 million dollars to settle allegations from 36 attorneys general that it sold drivers' driving data from its OnStar Smart Driver program to data brokers, who sold it on to insurance companies. The states say GM's own app told more than 370,000 drivers they were not enrolled when they were. GM did not admit wrongdoing. The money goes to the states; a separate class action is still pending.
