Android SMS of Death: A Hidden Text Can Drop Calls

A security researcher says one badly formed text, which never shows up in your inbox, can crash the part of Android that runs calls and mobile service. BleepingComputer, reporting on Oct 31, writes that the crash "disconnects ongoing phone calls, including calls to emergency services." Every harm claim in this story comes from the researcher's own testing: he says he tested a Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy phones. We found no report of anyone being attacked.
